Stewart Laing is a ‘well kent’ and highly respected face on the whisky circuit and leads Hunter Laing, a third generation independent whisky business carrying on from the one started by his father over 60 years ago. He has a reputation, across the world, for quality whiskies.
Our group consider us very fortunate to have had Stewart support us at our inaugural 2011 Dinner. Stewart’s contribution started the evening brilliantly and has set the high standard for us to strive to achieve at future Dinners.
We were delighted to see Stewart again at our 2012 Dinner where we surpassed our fundraising totals from the previous year. Stewart generously continued his support in 2013, despite being unable to attend the event, by providing a fantastic 50 year old grain whisky to compliment to a course at our Dinner.
At our 2015 dinner Stewart entertained us once again and generously provided 3 drams for our pre dinner tasting.
Firstly an outstanding 41 year old grain whisky from the closed Edinburgh distillery, Caledonian. This was followed by a 27 year old Tamdhu from Hunter Laing’s Old Malt Cask range and the tasting concluded with a blended malt: the Loch Fyne 1745, an exclusive to The Whisky Shop and a recent gold medal winner from Jim Murray of the Whisky Bible fame.
