In October 2012 10 members of the group cycled to Tobermory distillery and were shown great hospitality by the distillery manager Graham Brown. After enjoying the Tobermory and Ledaig 10 year olds the unanimous favourite was the Tobermory 15 year old which was enjoyed at the distillery and again in the hotel that evening.
After hearing about the charitable intentions of the St Andrew’s evening the staff at Tobermory and Burn Stewart Distillers generously provided more of their fantastic 15 year old Tobermory for the company to enjoy at the 2012 St Andrew’s evening.
Burn Stewart again supported our Group when Peter Semple, their visitor and retail facilities manager, provided his time, energy and knowledge of the whisky industry for the whisky tasting before our 2013 Dinner.
Through Peter’s hospitality the company enjoyed a great start to the evening with samples from Deanston in Stirlingshire, Bunnahabhain on Islay and Tobermory on Mull. Many members of the group had visited one or all of these distilleries since SAFG held their first dinner in 2011 and we feel sure many more members will be tempted to visit following Peter’s excellent tasting.
Peter made our 2014 Dinner and graciously provided the recently released Bunnahabhain Ceobanach (smoky mist) to accompany our cheese course. This was a very popular dram which is peatier than the conventional Bunnahabhain and made it a perfect partner for the selection of cheeses we had.
Peter joined us again in 2015 and we are thrilled to have his and Burn Stewart’s continued support. The generous provision of the Deanston 18 year old to accompany our classic cranachan course was greatly welcomed and enjoyed by all.
