The Tasting

 

Our first evening in 2011 started with tasting and entertainment from Stewart Laing of Hunter Laing and Co. As well as hosting the tasting, and entertaining us, Stewart’s generosity in providing 3 outstanding whiskies got the evening off to the best possible start.

A 33 year old grain whisky, a 28 year old single malt, both from closed distilleries (Port Dundas and St Magdeline) and a sample from the Laing’s Double Barrel range, which combined 2 different malts from single casks, certainly fitted the description of ‘outstanding’ and ‘generous’.

The SAFG Committee provided Royale Salute 21 year old for the enjoyment of members.

Our 2011 night continued with more of our generous friends contributing to our tasting and enjoyment. Alan Hall, of The Creative Whisky Company provided a 14 year old dram from Blair Athol from the independent bottling market.

Stewart Laing’s further contributions of Big Peat and Tamdhu 21 year old added more value and enjoyment as did Richard Paterson, Whyte and Mackay’s Master Blender, who added further riches to the night with the Shackleton blended malt, the very popular Jura Prophecy and first class Dalmore 15 to accompany the dessert.
